A Guide on Different Parts of Hookah to Buy and How to Use It

Butane lighter in NZ is an important accessory when smoking a hookah. Without it, well you can’t ignite the coals and smoke. But aside from a lighter, there are many other tools and accessories you can buy for the best hookah experience. Here are the most essential ones:

The base

The first thing you need to do when setting up your hookah is to prepare the base. It looks like a glass or a jar. This part is very important because it is what holds the stem, tray, bowl, and the rest of the setup together. It is also the carrier of the smoke that preserves and allows it to travel out into the hose port. Moreover, it filters harmful particles. The stem of the hookah pipe needs to be submerged in at least one inch of water as this is what helps draw the Shisha smoke out.

The bowl

The bowl or the head is where you put the shisha tobacco. You need to cover the bowl with foil and create tiny holes using a thumbtack for ventilation. And then, light up the charcoal with the butane lighter in NZ

The tray

The hookah tray is placed underneath the head on the shaft of the stem. On top of it is the bowl with the shisha tobacco and coal. Another role of the hookah tray is to hold the charcoal that is ignited by butane lighter in NZ. It prevents some charcoal particles from falling onto your table or floor. This way, you won’t accidentally burn your carpet or table covers.

The stem/Hookah Pipe

The thing that connects the base, the bowl, and the hose is called the stem. It is the centrepiece of your entire hookah that usually comes in elegant designs. The bowl port of the stem is the main entrance where the smoke travels down from. Meanwhile, the hose port is where the hose is connected. Opposite it is called the purge valve port which is designed to restrict air from entering the pipe and help you release stale smoke from your hookah base.

The pipe needs to be securely attached to the base and should be airtight. You can check that the hookah pipe is airtight by placing a hand over the top of the head base or bowl and sucking the air through the hose. You should feel the suction from your hand and see a few bubbles. If this doesn’t happen, patiently find where the air may be escaping from.
